One HBCU’s winningest women’s basketball coach will now try his hand to revive a struggling program.

Cedric Baker, who won 262 games at Savannah State, was introduced as South Carolina State’s new women’s basketball coach Tuesday afternoon.  Baker replaces Tim Eatman, who resigned last week following three seasons at the helm and a 7-84 record.

Baker, a Voorhees College graduate, began coaching the Tigers in 2003, leading the program to both MEAC (2015) and SIAC (2022) tournament championships. The 2015 Savannah State team featured Ezinne Kalu, who recently played in the WNBA with the Atlanta Dream.

Baker will try to revive a South Carolina State program that has not had a winning record since the 2014-15 season and hasn’t recorded a double-digit win season since 2018-19.
