Charlie Ward’s first FAMU signings have been announced, and one of them is the son of a former Pro Bowl wide receiver in the NFL.
Anquan Boldin Jr., son of three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin Sr., has committed to transfer to the Rattlers from the University of Buffalo.
The Boldin family adds another member to the HBCU, DJ Boldin, uncle of Boldin Jr. and brother of Boldin Sr., who is a wide receivers coach at South Carolina State.
According to reports, the IMG Academy alum fielded interest in several top Division I programs, such as Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and San Diego State, before committing to Florida A&M.
Boldin Jr. put up 7.5 points per game and 3.3 rebounds in 53 games at Buffalo.
Ward’s first official signing is Devere Palmer, a standout Junior College performer from Monroe University.
In his two seasons at Monroe, the New York native averaged 11.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game in 59 games.
Palmer was named an NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention this past season after helping lead his team to an East District Championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
In the first round of the National Tournament, Palmer helped Monroe win over Chipola, scoring a team-high 17 points on 55% shooting from the field and grabbing seven rebounds.
