A Howard University alum, long respected in sports journalism circles, is moving on this summer.

Stan Verrett, who hosted the Los Angeles edition of ESPN’s flagship show SportsCenter, will not have his contract renewed when it expires in June, according to a report from Front Office Sports.

“We’re grateful for Stan’s many contributions and all he has brought to SportsCenter over the years,” ESPN executive vice president and executive Dave Roberts said in a statement. “We thank him and wish him continued success.”

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Verrett arrived at ESPN from his hometown station WDSU-TV in 2000. He initially hosted the 1:30 a.m. edition of SportsCenter, then moved out west with co-host Neil Everett to launch the Los Angeles show in 2009.

Everett retired in 2023, and Verrett, with fellow longtime ESPN anchor Linda Cohn, continued to host the LA SportsCenter, which had its final episode Monday, May 19.

My life is in Los Angeles is now. Nothing but gratitude for 25 years of living a dream at ESPN. I’m not retiring. Really excited about the future and some incredible opportunities. Stay tuned. https://t.co/qA4ZX4X4UJ
