Brown calls for unity in protecting U.S. citizenship rights

During terrible times like these we as a people need to know what our earthly citizenship RIGHTS are as written in the United States Constitution. And as Christians, we know that we have a heavenly citizenship as stated in the Bible, Philippians 3:20, where Paul writes, “We are citizens of heaven, where our Lord Jesus Christ lives.”

The Bible and U.S. Constitution go hand-in-hand because Paul begins in verse 1 by telling us to “rejoice in the Lord, for he never gets tired of telling us these things for he does that to safeguard your faith.”

Why should we stand strong in our faith? Because in verse 3, Paul tells us to “Watch out for those DOGS, those are people who do evil and mutilators,” meaning they destroy things. And I know a lot of people like this that are trying to destroy our country by bullying us and telling us we have no rights and denying us access to DUE PROCESS for justice as out lined in the Constitution. 

The Constitution begins with these words “We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Article 1 grants all legislative power to Congress and not to the president. If you have any questions regarding the powers of your representative in Congress, please pick up the phone and call his/her office. That is your right, plus you pay taxes which give you that right as well. 

The First Amendment grants you these rights “Freedom of Speech; Freedom of the Press; the Right to peaceably assemble in public and petition the government for a redress of grievances.” I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of issues or concerns with this government’s actions and am going to exercise my rights, and hope you do as well. 

Allow me to borrow what Paul did in telling the people about his Hebrew heritage. I was born in America under Jim Crow in the township of Trenton, in Jones County, North Carolina to parents Floyd and Essie Brown. To save time on my long lineage, I will begin by sharing that I am a descendant of Thomas Oliver a white man who fathered a child (Phoebe) with his slave, Dilcey. They are my great, great, great grandparents. Dilcey is the mother of my great, great grandmother, Phoebe Green, who is the mother of my great grandfather, Thomas Green, who is the father of my grandmother, Mary O. Green–the mother of Floyd Brown, my father. 

On my mother’s side of the family, I am the descendant of Amy Hill, born around 1827. She is my great, great grandmother. She was enslaved on the Adonijah McDaniel Plantation–he is my great, great grandfather, a white man who owned Amy Hill as property. 

Adonijah fathered two children with Amy Hill–Harriet McDaniel Williams and Jane McDaniel, my great grandmother. Jane is the mother of Edward Brown, my grandfather and he is the father of Essie Brown, my mother. Adonijah was a Confederate Soldier and my great, great Uncle Bryant Williams, Harriet’s husband, was a soldier in the Union Army. He was killed while fighting during the Civil War at a battle in South Carolina. 

Just like Paul did in Philippians 3, I want to establish my citizenship as a bonafide American, thus ensuring all my rights under the Constitution. The 14th Amendment guarantees my rights to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizenship, Due Process and Equal Protection and NO state can deprive me of Life, Liberty or Property, without Due Process, nor deny me equal protection under the law.

The 15th Amendment establishes the right to vote without any interference by all these “Trumped-up” schemes by the Republican Party and a few rich members of the “oligarchy.”

When I was in high school, I took a typing class and had to type over and over again these words: “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.” It was to increase my finger span across the keyboard. But now I type it to challenge men and women of good will to get up and do something to help save our country. 

As stated in my brief family history, I have a vested interest in this country’s success. Let me give you a few suggestions of things you can do; stand outside the Social Security Office (on the sidewalk) with a sign in your hand that says “SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY;” attend a local school board meeting and/or County School Board Meeting and request they pass a resolution to save the Department of Education and send it out. Join with other groups of different races and demand all persons on United States land be granted “DUE PROCESS” before being deported or locked up without legal representation. Call your U.S. Senators and Congressmembers and let them hear your concerns. You can go to businesses like Target, for example, and let them know that since they do not want to hire people of different races, you cannot spend your money with them. 

“Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country.”

We need to contact these elected officials and say: 

As one of your constituents, I urge you to reject any discussions of cuts, layoffs, abolishment of any federally funded departments, programs and/or services such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Education, Post Office, CDC, Health and Human Services, Defense, Justice, Agriculture or Veterans without  providing evidence and justification to support your decisions. Keep working to lower the cost of medicine, food and other consumer goods.
