Former Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback Mekhi Hagens is moving from the SWAC West to the SWAC East.
He has committed to play for Alabama A&M, with two years remaining eligibility.
Initially entering the transfer portal in December, Hagens announced his intention to transfer to Lamar in February.
Before committing to Lamar, the SWAC quarterback received offers from Southern, Howard, South Carolina State, and Prairie View A&M.
In two seasons at UAPB, Hagens tallied 3,121 passing yards, completing 51% of his passes, and scoring 19 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also recorded 297 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Last season, he finished second in the SWAC, averaging 211.8 passing yards per game and third with 16 passing touchdowns.
His leading receiver, Javonnie Gibson, who has since transferred to the University of Oklahoma, ranked fourth in FCS with 1,215 receiving yards.
Hagens will join an Alabama A&M team that moved on from former head coach Connell Maynor after seven seasons.
The Bulldogs called on former Miles head coach Sam Shade to fill the role after leading the Golden Bears to their first SIAC championship since 2019 last season.
Alabama A&M finished the 2024 season with a 6-6 overall record, including a 4-4 record against the SWAC. They have not finished with a record above .500 since 2021.
