The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships have concluded, and one HBCU squad took first place.

Lincoln (MO) was the day’s biggest winner, closing out the day with a pair of top finishes in the respective 4×400 relays.

After posting the fastest time in the preliminary round, Lincoln’s women’s 4×400 relay team took home the gold in the finals after posting a personal-best time of 3:32.62.

Handing off the baton to the third leg with the team in fourth place, Shevanae Thomas put the team in the front of the pack with a 52.42 split while Shantae George anchored the team to victory with a 52.17 split.

Lincoln’s women’s 4×400 relay team sweeps the national championships for the 2025 season, having snagged the gold in the indoor season.

In the past three seasons, they became the second women’s 4×400 relay team to sweep the indoor and outdoor national championships.

Meanwhile, Lincoln’s men’s 4×400 relay team posted a personal-best time of 3:05.23 but fell short of claiming the National Title, finishing second behind Pittsburg State.

This finish replicates the result from the indoor season, where the men’s 4×400 relay team also finished second behind Pittsburg State.

Additionally, this marks the second time in the last three years that Lincoln’s men’s 4×400 relay team has finished in the top three at the Outdoor National Championships, having finished second in 2023.

These were not the only podium finishes for Lincoln (MO) athletes. Sharim Hamilton finished fourth in the men’s 400 hurdles finals, while his teammate Clinton Laguerre came in sixth.

Sheneal Clarke-Giddings placed sixth in the women’s 800m final, while Shevanae Thomas and Shantae George each finished in eighth place in the women’s 400m and 200m, respectively.

Elsewhere, Claflin’s Jaevon Riley secured the best finish by a non-Lincoln (MO) athlete, coming in second in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best 49.87-second time. His teammate Zion Murry closed the men’s 800m final in fourth place, running a 1:49.59 mark.

Johnson C. Smith sprinter Tyson Williams claimed a pair of top-five finishes, coming in third in the 200m final (20.63) and fifth in the 100m final (10.09).

Albany State’s Kibren Moore finished fifth and eighth in the men’s 200m and 100m, respectively, while teammate Nathalia Rowe came in sixth in the women’s 400 hurdles final.

Rounding out the track finalists is Winston-Salem State’s Charnessa Reid, who placed fourth in the women’s 100 hurdles in 13.35 seconds.

Virginia State’s Joseph Briscoe was the only HBCU field athlete to reach the podium, claiming fourth place in the men’s high jump with a 2.12m mark.
