New York Fashion Week took over the city from Sept. 10-15, but the style wasn’t limited to the runway. Fashion enthusiasts stepped out in bold looks, color-coordinated ensembles and creative styling that showed just how much personality New Yorkers are packing into their outfits this season.

While designers such as Kai Cenat, Sergio Hudson, LaQuan Smith and others held it down indoors, The Root hit the pavement to scope out the stylish looks New Yorkers were serving up, from Midtown to the Meatpacking District and SoHo. Keep reading to check out 13 street-style moments that caught our eye.

We Love Layering

The name of this game is layering. We spotted an eye-catching look from Zenas, featuring a muted leopard print vest, draped black knit and straight brown pants. Studded jeans are raging this season and their combination did not disappoint.

A Splash of Color

With fall just around the corner, style icon Dileiny Baron knew exactly what to wear when show-hopping during NYFW. The fashion influencer paired her powder blue jacket-style dress with slouchy burgundy boots. We love a fun splash of color.

Model-Off-Duty Style

I can’t get enough of this model-off-duty look by Aissa. This effortless mix of basics — a simple statement piece, such as her woven shoulder bag, and a touch of muted accessories always works.

Effortless Glam

This on-the-go look didn’t dare sacrifice style. Eve Winter stopped the show with this monochromatic ensemble. We’re obsessed with her slouchy denim and structured wool outerwear.

Mixing Textures

Style comes easy for Sudani, who was fearless when it came to mixing textures. This tonal combo was a showstopper — even Midtown couldn’t get enough of this swag.

Warm Tones

These newlyweds owned a preppy casual look, mirroring chocolate browns, neutrals, and twinning in their matching Adidas Samba OGs. Although temps are dropping, these two kept the color story warm, and the shoulder-tied sweater added a touch of elegance.

Whimsical Style

“Fairy glam” came to mind when we saw @cherrychy_’s feminine, whimsical look. The DJ paired her structured leather mini dress with billowing sleeves and a flowy necktie. Fabulous. We have no notes.

Daring Denim

The slit in Ashely’s full-length denim skirt is the star of the show. Softened with an asymmetrical canary yellow knit, sis has no regrets about this look, and we approve.

Muted Accessories

Loafers are all the rage with designers and editors alike. Sporting Reps Capital, this effortlessly sleek outfit was lightly accessorized with muted jewelry and a crossbody bag. The vibe gave “I got the city on lock” all Fashion Week.

Playing With Proportions

Don’t be afraid to play with proportions. The Wardrobe Therapist stepped out in a tailored striped button-down styled as a crop top. Trade your daily bottoms for a Bermuda short — and own it.

Nautical Chic

This happy couple had folks sailing away in SoHo with this breezy, nautical combination achieving a visually appealing get-up. Between the tailored blazer, the sharp stripes and pops of red, this color-coordinated duo embodied modern chic.

Good Knits, Good Kicks

True New Yorkers are known to own a street style edge. And nothing exudes confidence like good knits and good kicks, as sported by Rob.

Bold and Fearless

This look is fearless, combining textures, prints and accessories with ease. And at 70 years old, the style enthusiast — who goes by fashion.Harris — says “just take care of yourself” when asked how he stays so absolutely fabulous.
