Check out a handful of the many events happening in the DMV this weekend. To keep up with all the fun, don’t forget to check out the Washington Informer Calendar.

Keep your outlook vibrant and remember, there’s always something happening in the DMV to keep your spirit — and social life — lit.

Thursday, Oct. 15

Soul Therapy Wellness Mixer

5 p.m. | $74.20

Busboys & Poets, 2021 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20009

Resilience isn’t just about pushing through. Sometimes resilience is knowing when to keep going; sometimes it’s recognizing that something has to change.

As businesses navigate heightened economic uncertainty, leaders do more with less, and many people rethink what success and wellbeing really mean, this event is a chance to step out of the noise and reconnect with self and community.

Join Soul Therapy Media and The Washington Informer as a media partner for an intimate evening exploring what resilience looks like when life and work start asking something different. Discussions will include exploring what it takes to stay grounded through change— whether building a business, leading an organization, or trying to create a life and career that can offer sustainability and bring fulfillment.

Conversations with our Candidates

7 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Free registration required

The People’s Community Baptist Church, Norwood Center, 31 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905

On Thursday, Oct. 15, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Potomac Valley Section and Montgomery County Section, in partnership with community partners, will host “Conversations with Our Candidates… Our Voices Matter,” an in-person, nonpartisan candidate forum featuring candidates for Montgomery County Council At-Large.

The event will bring Montgomery County voters and candidates together for a community-centered conversation about issues affecting residents, families, and neighborhoods throughout the county. Through a moderated discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to hear directly from participating candidates about their perspectives, priorities, and approaches to serving Montgomery County.

In addition to the candidate conversation, attendees will have access to nonpartisan voter education information and community resources designed to support informed participation in the upcoming election.

Friday, Oct. 16

American Music Festival

2 p.m. | Free

Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center Theater, 555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 20001

Presented by the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute, the American Music Festival unites thought leaders, students, and musicians for three days of performances and conversation.

From spotlighting the Baltimore Jazz Collective on Oct. 16 to Saturday’s hip-hop honors and the culminating Peabody Chamber Orchestra on Oct. 18, this festival highlights the diverse sounds that shaped a nation.

Visit the event website for a detailed agenda.

Saturday, Oct. 17

Flying V Presents: THE ROYALE by Marco Ramirez

8 p.m. | $15+

Silver Spring Black Box Theatre, 8641 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Jay “The Sport” Jackson dreams of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it’s 1905, and in the racially segregated world of boxing, his chances are as good as knocked out. When a crooked boxing promoter hatches a plan for “the fight of the century,” “The Sport” just might land a place in the ring with the reigning white heavyweight champion.

This fall, Flying V brings a theatrical exploration of the rise — and the cost —  of a sports legend with “The Royale” by Marco Ramirez.

After winning Obie, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Awards off-Broadway, The Royale will bring Flying V audiences some intense theatricality–– with stylized combat reflecting its fighters’ internal journeys–– as well as historical drama that packs an all-too-relevant punch.

Sunday, Oct. 18

SunriseWALKS 2026: Benefiting Kids with Cancer

8 a.m. | Free

National Harbor, 165 Waterfront Street Oxon Hill, MD 20745

It’s time for the Fifth Annual SunriseWALKS, benefiting Sunrise Day Camp–Greater Washington, the region’s only free six-week summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings.

Funds raised also support year-round family programs and Sunrise on Wheels, which brings fun and engaging activities directly to children receiving treatment at Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Hospital.

Whether registering as an individual, creating a team, joining an existing team, or donating, every participant and every dollar raised helps ensure these life-changing programs remain free of charge for local families.

The Roost Ancient World Wine Fest

Noon | $52.86

The Roost, 1215 U Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20009

Join The Roost for a walk-around tasting and bottle sale of 30 of the company’s wines from ancient growing regions.

An expansion of the “Old World vs. New World” wine industry debate, this event brings some of the District’s top local wine distributors to share favorite wines that were made in incredibly historic wine regions, using old traditional methods and modern innovative winemaking techniques.
