Ayo Edebiri is spilling her own tea and detailing a crazy yet hilarious dating story to fans. Let’s get into it!
Her reveal came during the recurring “confessional” portion of Spanish singer Rosalía’s “LUX Tour,” which recently wrapped earlier in the week. But before she said goodbye, she invited Edebiri to participate in her confessional, where she shared a dating story from her “foolish” youth. Specifically, Edebiri recounted how this incident happened in her early 20s, when she was “crusty and dusty” and living in New York City.
“The Bear” actress explained that she began dating her coworker when she was 21, and he was in his early 30s. But not long after they began getting to know each other, there was an unexpected plot twist.
“My spidey senses are not going off. Because I’m just happy to get a free meal. So I go on a date with this man. He was very nice. Very charming. Very sweet. And I’m a good Christian girl, so I’m keeping it cute,” she said.

During a walk after their date, they passed by a restaurant, and Edebiri was hit with a big surprise.
“It’s not so much about the restaurant; it’s about who’s in the restaurant. He goes, ‘My wife is in the restaurant.’…So we go into the restaurant, because I’m a fool. But before we meet his wife, he goes, ‘We’re open, by the way.’…When I meet her, her face says closed,” Edebiri told a shocked audience.
After seeing the wife’s clearly surprised reaction, the Emmy-winning actress said that she left the couple at the restaurant because she didn’t want to know anything else. However, it would seem that her curiosity got the best of her as she accepted a party invitation from the same man about a week later. Thankfully, she didn’t stay long after getting weird vibes and ultimately decided not to engage with the man anymore.
“I go into the party. I think I’m in my overalls again. I show up, and everybody’s like, ‘Who’s that?’ But his wife is like, ‘I know who that is,’” Edebiri said. “And I’m like, ‘I don’t know why I came. Sorry. I don’t think this is going to happen the way any of us thought that this was going to go.’ So he’s like, ‘No worries. Have a good one.’”
But the story doesn’t end there.
The “Opus” star then revealed that years later, after moving across the country to Los Angeles, she went out for a neighborhood stroll to get a coffee. When she arrived at the coffee shop, she hit it off with a friendly female barista who remarked that Edebiri looked familiar. Feeling similarly, she and the woman kept talking until it finally clicked: the barista was the wife from years ago!
Naturally, after realizing it, the two stopped talking, and Edebiri left. When she returned the following week to subtly inquire about her, another barista informed her that the woman had quit a week prior. Then, as if the situation couldn’t get any worse, yet another twist happened.
“Then I got a text from the guy that was like, ‘Heard you live in L.A. now.’ And I blocked him,” she said. “Just bad decision after bad decision.”
