Kicking off the semester in true HBCU fashion, the campus at Clark Atlanta University came alive with a celebration of culture, legacy, and community to welcome students back to the yard. ONE YARD: The HBCU Experience pulled up to the storied institution on Sept. 2nd for the final stop of its HBCU campus tour.
Set up in the heart of Atlanta, the event welcomed more than 1,000 students from Clark Atlanta and AUC Consortium schools including Morehouse and Spelman — all part of the village that bonds HBCU campuses in Atlanta and across the nation.
Students and guests enjoyed a whole host of activities built around good food, fun, and community, with sounds by DJ Misses, co-host of Hot 107.9’s Posted on the Corner. A tailgate-inspired experience presented by Coca-Cola — “The World Is My Yard” — featured a crave-worthy food truck lineup with Da Hole in the Wall, The Funnel Cake Guys, and Tres Jardines tacos.
The HBCU community put their knowledge of Atlanta culture to the test in a game of trivia hosted by ATL’s own Domani Harris, and the games continued with TV One’s A Different Worldtrivia challenge, hosted by BOSSIP managing editor and TV personality Dani Canada. Players watched classic clips from the beloved ‘90s sitcom (which returns this Sept. 24th on Netflix) and showed off just how well they knew the show.
Students went head-to-head at the Aura Arcade, hosted by esports platform PlayVS, putting their gaming skills on display. Across the yard, a dedicated wellness hub welcomed the campus community to relax and recharge with a yoga and meditation session led by Hey Yogi. Custom skin analysis by Aesthetics Loft and haircuts by Infinity Grooming Loft had students stepping into the semester looking and feeling their best.
Over on the 3rd Space main stage, HipHopWired was on-site taping a special HBCU edition of its Live Wire show — a digital interview and performance series — featuring rap star and “Pretty Girl” Big Boss Vette.
