We haven’t heard much from actor John Boyega in the past two years. But he recently broke his silence to reveal a major life update: his marriage and first child. Now, fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the surprising news.
The talented actor recently spilled the beans in an all-new interview with The Guardian while in London to support the BAFTA TV Preview for “Damilola Taylor: The Last 24 Hours.” There, he revealed that he and his wife had been married for nearly two years. Although he didn’t share her name, Boyega said the pair opted for a small private ceremony rather than a large, traditional Nigerian wedding. However, he assured the outlet that they planned to set a date for a real Nigerian celebration at some point.
“We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!” he said.

While Boyega’s spouse’s name is still a mystery, it should be noted that in May 2026, many celebrity gossip blogs published pictures of him out with actress and former video model Lashontae Heckard, with some sites noting that it appeared the two were sporting wedding rings. And while that may not be enough to confirm their relationship, Heckard is listed as “Tae Boyega” on Instagram. Boyega also confirmed their love and “bundle of joy” late on Tuesday in a social post.
“Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now, but thank you for all the well wishes. Also, my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too! Back to feeding this big baby!” he wrote along with pictures of him and very pregnant Heckard and a video of him holding a baby.
As if the news of his marriage wasn’t enough of a shock, Boyega then dropped another personal bombshell: he and his wife were expecting a baby boy soon. He went on to explain that the timing couldn’t be any better, as he’s been deliberate in taking a step back in his career. In return, he’s been able to be more “present,” “consistent,” and “full of love.”
“We got a baby cooking. My life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing,” he said. “I’ve tried to, as much as possible–especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot–to de-centre my career. There have been certain moments when I’ve known that this is a time for family. You know, there’s stuff to do.”
But while Boyega is on cloud 9 and focused on building his family, his fans are still confused, and they wasted no time expressing that on social media.
“Ngl I thought John Boyega was hiding a white woman,” one user wrote on X/Twitter.
“This is still so random but go ahead Tae Heckard,” one other user wrote.
Added another: “This relationship still confuses the f*k outta me lmao.”
“The only son in a Yoruba family got secretly married? And you still ain’t had the traditional wedding? And you got a baby on the way? The eldest daughter could never,” joked one user.
One other user captioned a video of a disappointed man on X: “Asked John Boyega to give any updates on upcoming projects and all I got was a marriage to an almost 50-year-old woman and a pregnancy announcement.”
