The final bell is about to ring in the halls of “Abbott Elementary.” Actress Quinta Brunson returns as Janine Teagues for the show’s farewell season.

Season 6 will wrap up the stories surrounding television’s favorite public school teachers in Philadelphia, teasing staff feuds, student chaos and the daily madness inside Abbott.

Brunson returns alongside Lisa Ann Walter’s Melissa Schemmenti, Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Barbara Howard, Chris Perfetti’s Jacob Hill, William Stanford Davis’ Mr. Johnson and Janelle James’ Ava Coleman.

“Anything can happen in the Jungle,” said Brunson’s character Janine in the show trailer.

Brunson told Atlanta Black Star during a press junket that she still struggles to keep a straight face while filming.

She admitted she could barely make it through the performance with co-star Chris Perfetti, who plays a history teacher.

“There’s a scene from an episode where we have a guest star actually in the scene, and Chris, as Jacob, reprises a character that really took me out when we first showed this side of Jacob, and it made me break originally, and it has made me break again,” Brunson says.

“And the scene is ridiculous. I could barely get through it. I think that day, I learned that I could still be broken,” she continues. “These people still can crack me right on up.”

Brunson’s comments about Jacob’s ability to throw everyone off also raise another question. Is he really the person you want around in a school emergency?

“He panics,” shouted Janelle James, who played the unapologetic and outspoken principal Ava Coleman.

“He does panic,” agreed Lisa Ann Walter about Jacob. “He moves fast, but in a lot of different directions at once. He’s just, he’s a flippity-jibbit.”

Jacob wasn’t sure why the cast picked him. But they agreed Janine would be the least responsible person to handle a real school emergency.

“I don’t think that’s within her bandwith at this time,” Brunson agreed. “I think it’s litltle bit too much for her at this time. Hopefully she grows into being able to handle such a thing.”

Season 6 will also see Janine’s evolvement as well as the new dynamic in her relationship with Gregory Eddie, played Tyler James Williams. The duo remained friends in the first three seasons before finally getting together.

But the emotional cliffhanger in season 5 left fans wondering about that rough patch.

Janine and Gregory had a clash over travel plans for their first getaway. Their fight exposes deeper differences about money and compromise, leading Janine to suggest a breakup.

With help from Barbara and Mr. Johnson, the couple repaired their relationship and realized their argument went deeper than choosing between driving and flying.

Gregory also enters Season 6 with another major change. After years of teaching at Abbott, he takes on the role of assistant principal.

Williams added another teaser about this upcoming season’s unpredictable humor. He admitted the scripts still surprise him with jokes he never sees coming.

“I think if anything, it’s not even shocking at this point. It’s a grateful thing of just how still good it is,” Williams told ABS.

He also teased one thing the show still gets right: surprising its own cast.

“That’s the thing. It’s like, I’m still reading and I’m surprised by a joke coming,” Williams said. “It’s still catching me off guard, even though we’ve been in this [show] four or five [years] now, going on six years. It’s really nice to still be surprised on the page.”

His reaction suggests the cast may know the characters inside and out, but the new season still has plenty of surprises in store.

Janine and Gregory are also stepping into a new chapter as their relationship continues to unfold. Their romance could bring a fresh dynamic to the halls of Abbott, especially as they figure out where it goes next.

Melissa Schemmenti returns this school year as a union representative. Her new role also means Principal Ava can no longer swear at staff, a rule she struggles to follow.

Meanwhile, Barbara Howard, played by Golden Globe nominee Sheryl Lee Ralph, faces a bizarre accident near the school.

With new rules, workplace shake-ups and unexpected chaos, Season 6 of “Abbott Elementary” looks ready to deliver plenty of laughs, mess and romantic tension.

“Abbott Elementary” returns on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8:30 p.m.
