For over 178 years, Washington Gas has been a trusted energy provider in the DMV. Today, we help fuel this region by delivering affordable, reliable and safe natural gas to homes and businesses across our communities. Just as important, we are committed to strengthening those communities through partnerships with local nonprofit organizations that work every day to improve the lives of our neighbors.
We see our role as a local energy provider as going beyond delivering safe, reliable service. We are committed to investing in the strength and well-being of the communities we serve by focusing on what matters most here in the DMV.
Service in Action with Community Partners
Bringing that commitment to life, employees recently spent a week volunteering alongside nonprofit partners that are working every day to address some of the most pressing needs in our region. Through our Energy for Good Seven Days of Service initiative, Washington Gas employees proudly volunteered over 400 hours through events dedicated to strengthening our communities.
At DC Central Kitchen, we prepared meals in support of the organization’s mission to combat hunger and poverty through job training and job creation. At A Wider Circle, employees supported warehouse operations, helping to provide household items to the greater DC area. With Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, volunteers built flooring to expand access to affordable homes in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. And at Ronald McDonald Houses, we cooked meals for families caring for children receiving medical treatment.
These organizations represent just a few of the many DMV community partners making a difference every day. We were also proud to support Northern Virginia Family Services, Capital Area Food Bank, the Greater DC Diaper Bank, and the American Red Cross through our Seven Days of Service initiative.
We are grateful for the opportunity to uplift these efforts, and we commend our nonprofit partners for the important work they do year-round to serve our communities.
Looking Ahead and Upcoming Grant Opportunities
In addition to volunteer service, Washington Gas supports nonprofit organizations throughout the year through grants and charitable contributions to promote critical programs and work.
The Washington Gas Community Investment Fund formally requests proposals through two cycles each year. We’ll be announcing our second community investment grant round of 2026 in mid-October, supporting area nonprofits focused on access and opportunity, safe communities, environmental stewardship, and community connections.
For the 2027 cycle, we’ll release our first call for proposals in February and encourage eligible organizations to apply. Please visit washingtongas.com/community-investment to stay up-to-date with the latest information and deadlines.
